PRODUCT BULLETIN: ATTENTION i-STAT ANALYSER USERS

BACKGROUND:

It has been determined that certain i-STAT analyser cartridges may exhibit an increased rate of quality check codes 45 and 55 when they are run without allowing sufficient time prior to use for the refrigerated cartridges to warm to room temperature.  Your analyser may require service in order to become operational after the occurrence of quality check codes 45 and 55.  Following the manufacturer's recommendations for cartridge warming will
significantly minimize the occurrence of quality check codes 45 and 55.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:

1. For long-term storage, keep cartridges in the refrigerator at 2-8° C.

2. Individual cartridges removed from the refrigerator should stand at room temperature for at least five (5) minutes prior to use.

3. Boxes of cartridges removed from the refrigerator should stand at room temperature for one (1) hour prior to use.

4. Cartridges that have been equilibrated to room temperature must not be returned to the refrigerator.

5. Once cartridges have been equilibrated to room temperature they may be stored
unopened at room temperature and used for up to 14 days.

Please review your practices procedures for storage and handling of i-STAT analyser
cartridges and modify as appropriate to accommodate the manufacturers
recommendations.
