Witness® FeLV - Detection of p27 capsid antigen present high concentration in samples of viraemic cats.

Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) is the number one cause of premature death in cats after car accidents. FeLV is a virus that weakens the immune system, and can also cause cancer. It is only infectious to cats, and once an animal is infected there is no cure. Prevention of the disease is by vaccination.

Before vaccinating a cat against FeLV for the first time, it is advisable to test for the virus. This can be done with a simple blood test, such as WITNESS FeLV . Although vaccinating a cat that already has the virus is not harmful, it may give a false sense of security, as it will not be effective.

Witness® FIV - Very early detection of antibodies to FIV thanks to the use of a synthetic peptide which mimics an epitope of the gp40.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is similar to HIV infection in Man, but can only affect cats. It takes much longer than FeLV to show any signs of disease, sometimes up to ten years after infection. Like FeLV, it damages the immune system, making the cat vulnerable to other diseases. It is spread by blood, so cats that fight are most at risk. There is no vaccine and no cure available.

If FIV is suspected a simple blood test such as WITNESS FIV, will show if the cat has been exposed to the virus.
