Launch of QBC ParaLens Advance and QBC Malaria Kits in Sudan
2011-12-20
Woodley Lab Diagnostics were pleased to partner their new Sudanese distributor DoHia International, in launching the new QBC ParaLens Advance Fluorescence Microscopy System and Malaria Test in Khartoum, Sudan
December 2011 saw the launch of the QBC ParaLens Advance Fluorescence Microscopy System and QBC Malaria Diagnostic Kits in Sudan to help fight the battle against malaria. Woodley Lab Diagnostics travelled to Khartoum, Sudan to deliver an in-depth presentation and demonstration on the QBC technology in order to assist in the fight against Malaria. Woodley were accompanied by Dr. Wendi Bailey, a leading expert in parasitology from the Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine; together they delivered a presentation to over 100 leading pathologists from Sudan on the various malaria diagnostic techniques being used today. In partnership with their representative in Sudan, DoHia International, Woodley were able to demonstrate the QBC Malaria Diagnostic Kits and the QBC ParaLens Fluorescence Microscopy System to the group of pathologists with enormous success.

Woodley are pleased to report that the reaction to the QBC technology for malaria diagnosis was overwhelmingly positive, with a large percentage of attendees commenting the technology will be of great use in the fight against malaria in Sudan allowing them to diagnose samples quicker and more effectively. “Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Sudan; symptomatic malaria accounts for 20–40% of outpatient clinic visits and approximately 30% of hospital admissions. The entire population of Sudan is at risk of malaria, although to different degrees (W.H.O.1)”.
The QBC Malaria Diagnostic Kits are based around fluorescence microscopy and utilise a single capillary-type tube for collection and analysis. The QBC Malaria Diagnostic kits provide easy sample collection and processing with fast preparation times. They also concentrate samples to simplify review and provide greater sensitivity than possible with conventional stains, particularly in cases of low parasitemia. When used with the QBC ParaLens Advance fluorescent microscope attachment, a low cost attachment designed to fit on standard light microscopes to upgrade them to LED fluorescence microscopy, the system becomes a highly effective tool in the global fight against malaria.
